Concrete roof tiles

Standard Details

Preface This is the second edition of the CSA A220 Series, Concrete roof tiles . It supersedes the previous edition published in 1991. CSA A220 Series consists of two Standards: CSA A220.0 and CSA A220.1. CSA A220.0, Performance of concrete roof tiles, specifies requirements for concrete roof tiles and tiling accessories, based on the results of performance tests. It outlines procedures and acceptance criteria for sampling and testing for dimensional tolerances, water absorption, water permeability, freezing and thawing resistance, transverse strength, and material quality. CSA A220.1, Installation of concrete roof tiles, specifies requirements for the installation of concrete roof tiles and tiling accessories on roofs with slopes of 1:3 and greater. It also provides requirements for the installation of sheathing and the installation and testing of underlayment as well as the related requirements for weather-resistant roofing systems. These Standards were prepared by the Technical Committee on Concrete Roof Tiles, under the jurisdiction of the Strategic Steering Committee on Concrete and Related Products, and were approved by the Technical Committee. They will be submitted to the Standards Council of Canada for approval as National Standards of Canada. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A220.0-06 - Performance of concrete roof tiles Scope 1.1 This Standard applies to concrete roof tiles and tiling accessories intended for use as weather-resistant roofing materials. 1.2 This Standard specifies the requirements and procedures for the sampling and testing of concrete roof tiles for dimensional tolerances, water absorption, water permeability, freezing and thawing resistance, transverse strength, and material quality. 1.3 In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and "can" is used to express possibility or capability. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A220.1-06 - Installation of concrete roof tiles Scope 1.1 This Standard applies to the installation of concrete roof tiles and tiling accessories on roofs with slopes of 1:3 and greater. Note: Figures in this Standard are for illustration of specific clause requirements and do not include all details necessary for a proper roof installation. Manufacturers’ installation guidance should be followed where not contradictory to the requirements of this Standard. 1.2 This Standard provides the minimum requirements for the installation of battens and underlayment materials under concrete roof tiles as well as the related requirements for weather-resistant roofing systems. 1.3 This Standard does not provide design requirements for truss, rafter, or roof strength. 1.4 In CSA Standards, "shall" is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the standard; "should" is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; "may" is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the standard; and "can" is used to express possibility or capability.
