Standard Details

CSA Preface This is the first edition of CSA/ANSI C22.2 No. 19085-1, Woodworking machines — Safety — Part 1: Common requirements, which is an adoption, with North American deviations, of the identically titled ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Standard 19085-1 (first edition, 2017-07). It is one in a series of Standards issued by CSA Group under Part II of the Canadian Electrical Code. This Standard covers the safety issues presented by newly emerging woodworking machines. This Standard is intended to be used in conjunction with other parts of the CSA/ANSI C22.2 No. 19085 series of Standards, applicable to specific machine types. Note: When "Part 1" is mentioned in this Standard, it refers to CSA/ANSI C22.2 No. 19085-1 (first edition). This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. This Standard has been approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an American National Standard. Scope This document gives the safety requirements and measures to reduce risks related to woodworking machines arising during operation, adjustment, maintenance, transport, assembly, dismantling, disabling and scrapping and which are common to machines used in the woodworking industry. It is applicable to woodworking, stationary and displaceable machines when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. NOTE 1 For relevant but not significant hazards, e.g. sharp edges of the machine frame, see ISO 12100:2010. It is intended to be used in conjunction with the other parts of ISO 19085, applicable to specific machine types. It is not applicable to machines intended for use in potential explosive atmospheres or to machines manufactured prior to the date of its publication. NOTE 2 Machines for capturing and extracting dust are covered by EN 12779 and EN 16770. 1DV.1 Modify Clause 1 by adding the following to the first paragraph: This Standard applies to electrical woodworking machines rated 600 V or less that are intended to be installed and used in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) in the United States and the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I (CSA C22.1) in Canada. In Canada, general requirements applicable to these machines are provided in CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0. 1DV.2 Modify Clause 1 by replacing Note 2 with the following: NOTE 2 Machines for capturing and extracting dust are not within the scope of this Standard.
