This standard covers valves, fittings, service saddles, and meter setters for use in a service line from the main through the meter valve or meter-setting appurtenance. Valves, fittings, and meter setters described in this standard include 1/2 in. (12.5 mm) through 2 in. (50.8 mm). Service saddles described have outlet sizes 1/2 in. (12.5 mm) through 2 in. (50.8 mm) and fit mains of 2 in. (50.8 mm) through 12 in. (304.8 mm). Valves include corporation stops and curb stops. Fittings include various types of couplings and adapters. Service saddles include various types of devices circumferentially attached to the main. Meter setters include various configurations of copper tubing, valves, and fittings for the holding of 5/8 in. (15.875 mm) through 2 in. (50.8 mm) meters.

This standard or sections of this standard can be referenced in specifications for purchasing and receiving underground service line valves and fittings. The stipulations apply when this document has been referenced and then only to underground service line valves and fittings.

Wastewater implies a lack of control over its chemical and physical composition. Valves and fittings in compliance with this standard may be suitable for wastewater applications; however, compliance does not ensure manufacturer approval of a specific valve or fitting in wastewater applications. Suitability for a specific valve or fitting should be determined by analyzing a particular wastewater application in conjunction with the manufacturer.
