Standard Guide for Waste Plastic Process Oil Analyses
1.1 The guide summarizes the currently available tests and analyses to evaluate waste plastic process oil (WPPO). The guide covers the foundational critical parameters, including composition, physical properties, and contaminants. Not all referenced standards include waste plastic process oil in their scope and precision statement. Users may need to develop modifications to the standards to be applicable to WPPO until the standards have been modified or new standards are developed to include WPPO, or both.
1.1.1 The composition of waste plastic process oil provides identification and quantification of the different chemical components present in the process oil, such as hydrocarbons with heteroatoms and other impurities.
1.1.2 Physical property analyses measure parameters which play a crucial role in determining the oil's handling, safety, and application properties.
1.1.3 Contaminants include harmful substances that might be present in waste plastic process oil.
1.2 Units—The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard.
1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
