1.1 This guide describes potentially acceptable techniques for lowering microbiological contamination in post-harvest inflorescence of cannabis and hemp.

1.2 This guide is applicable to all post-harvest inflorescence of cannabis and hemp plants regardless of the regulatory classification of the plant from which they were derived.

1.3 Acceptable limits for microbial contaminants of post-harvest inflorescence of cannabis and hemp plants may be defined by the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).

1.4 This guide is intended to provide techniques for lowering microbial contamination and is not intended to identify techniques that can be used to prevent microbial contamination before, during, or after any cultivation or process step.

1.5 This guide does not address the methods for quantifying microbial contamination or the utilization of any of these techniques.

1.6 This guide does not address techniques for lowering microbial contamination in manufactured products.

1.7 This guide does not address the control of degradation of non-microbial constituents, that is anything that is not a microbe, including toxins produced by endospores of these microbes. Cannabinoids and terpenes are an example of non-microbial constituents.
