1.1 This guide covers methods for endurance tests that evaluate proper function after repeated cycles under load (and resulting wear) that could be expected to occur in service over the lifetime of the aeroplane, or the lifetime of the component if it is life limited. The material was developed through open consensus of international experts in general aviation. This information was created by focusing on Level 1, 2, 3, and 4 Normal Category aeroplanes. The content may be more broadly applicable. It is the responsibility of the Applicant to substantiate broader applicability as a specific means of compliance. The topics covered within this guide are: using SAE standards for Normal Category aeroplanes, identifying systems, sub-systems, and components for endurance tests, test configuration, test load spectrum, environmental considerations, test cycles, accelerating endurance tests, pass/fail criteria, post endurance test activities, test report, endurance testing not completed prior to certification with no failures, and endurance testing not completed prior to certification with failures.
