Preface This is the fourth edition of CSA C358, Energy Consumption Test Methods for Household Electric Ranges . It supersedes the previous editions published in 1995, 1989, and 1979. It is written in SI (metric) units. This Standard was originally aligned with the requirements of Appendix I of the United States Department of Energy’s “Energy Conservation Program for Consumer Products”, 10 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 430 (2002 ed.), Subpart B. However, it has since been revised to more closely address Canadian requirements. This Standard specifies methods for measuring the usable oven space, the energy consumption, and the energy efficiency of electrically operated ranges and for testing their performance characteristics under specific test conditions. CSA acknowledges that the development of this Standard was made possible, in part, by the financial support of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). This Standard was prepared by the Subcommittee on the Performance of Ranges, under the jurisdiction of the Technical Committee on Residential Equipment and the Strategic Steering Committee for Performance of Energy Efficiency and Renewables, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope 1.1 This Standard applies to household electric ranges that are intended to be used on a 60 Hz ac supply with a nominal system voltage of 120/240 V. 1.2 This Standard specifies the methods to be used in measuring the capacity, the energy consumption, and the energy efficiency of electrically operated ranges. 1.3 This Standard does not apply to (a) microwave cooking appliances; (b) portable units designed for an electrical supply of 120 V; (c) induction heating elements; or (d) warming compartments or zones that are not intended for cooking and the elements of which cannot raise the compartment or zone temperature above 100 °C.
