Preface This is the harmonized CSA Group and ULSE Standard for Elevator Door Locking Devices and Door or Gate Closed Detection Means . It is the First edition of CSA B44.11 and the Twelfth edition of UL 104. This edition of CSA B44.11 replaces CSA LTR D-001, published in 2018. This edition of UL 104 supersedes the previous edition(s) published on February 26, 2016. This harmonized standard was prepared by the CSA Group and Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL). The efforts and support of the Joint Technical Subcommittee (JTSC) for the Standard for Elevator Door Locking Devices and Contacts are gratefully acknowledged. This standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the standard. This standard was reviewed by the CSA Subcommittee on Elevator Door Locking Devices and Contacts, under the jurisdiction of the CSA Technical Committee on Elevator Safety Code and the CSA Strategic Steering Committee on Mechanical Industrial Equipment Safety, and has been formally approved by the CSA Technical Committee. This standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope 1.1 These requirements cover the following devices intended for installation and operation on horizontal and vertically opening hoistway doors and gates and car doors and gates in accordance with the requirements of ASME A17.1/CSA B44: a) Hoistway Door Interlocks; b) Hoistway Door Closed Detection Means; c) Hoistway Door Combination Mechanical Lock and Electric Contacts; d) Hoistway Gate Electric Contacts; e) Car Door Interlocks; f) Car Door Closed Detection Means; and g) Car Gate Closed Detection Means. 1.2 These requirements are intended to be used in conjunction with the relevant sections of ASME A17.1/CSA B44. 1.3 These requirements do not cover: a) Devices with a rated voltage exceeding 600 volts; b) Hoistway door interlock retiring cam device as defined by ASME A17.1/CSA B44; or c) Devices for use only in platform lifts within the scopes of CSA B355 and ASME A18.1.
