This AMPP Guide describes the use of reference photographs depicting the appearance of carbon steel (unpainted, previously painted, and partially rusted) before and after pulsed laser ablation (PLA) cleaning. These photographs are intended to be used to supplement the written AMPP surface preparation standard for pulsed laser ablation, SP21511-1-2024, “Laser Ablation for Surface Preparation of Ferrous Metals, Pulsed Laser (LA-1)” and the AMPP technical guide for pulsed laser ablation, Guide 21611-2024, “Laser Ablation Technical Guide for Ferrous Metal Substrates.” The written standards are the primary means to determine conformance with cleaning requirements. The photographs shall not be used as a substitute for the written standards.
